Treatment Fifteen

Written by Alyssa.

We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

Mom enjoyed some time with the whole family on Christmas Day, but it was exhausting for her. She slept for part of the day and then joined us for dinner and opening gifts in the evening, but had to rest again after a couple of hours. Although this made our Christmas a little different this year, we are all very thankful for the time we were able to spend celebrating together.

Mom has continued to struggle with the effects of being sick over the past two weeks. She still has moments of feeling weak and sometimes has difficulty catching her breath after moving around a lot. She also has quite a cough that can’t be treated with any cough medicine because of her heart condition.

Mom was able to have her Chemotherapy treatment today. They have her scheduled for treatments on Mondays in January, which is a welcome change after having Friday treatments for most of December. Today’s treatment was only a Chemotherapy shot and next week she will begin a new cycle of treatment and receive both Chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Today’s treatment went well. Mom and Dad left early because of the freezing rain and snow that was forecasted and ended up arriving thirty minutes before her appointment time! The roads weren’t nearly as bad as they thought they would be. Even though she was early, they were able to give her treatment earlier as well.  Mom was actually able to have her treatment, stop by the pharmacy and be back home before her scheduled appointment time!

Prayer Requests:

  1. Please pray that Mom continues to recover from her bout of the flu. She still has a cough, some weakness and fatigue, and lower oxygen levels when moving around a lot.

  2. Praise God that Mom was strong enough to fight off her sickness - quite the feat with a compromised immune system!

  3. Pray that Mom continues to respond well to her treatments.

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1

“And Behold, I am with you always” Matthew 28:20

“Our hope is not found in understanding why God allowed suffering into our lives. Our hope is not found in the belief that somehow we will tough our way through. Our hope is not found in doctors, lawyers, pastors, family, or friends. Our hope is not found in our resilience or ingenuity. Our hope is not found in ideas or things. Though we may look to all those for temporary help, ultimately our hope rests in the faithful and gracious presence of the Lord with us.

No matter how hard and dark your situation, you are never alone, because you’ve carried him with you wherever you go and into whatever hard thing you’re experiencing. Your Lord, in all his power and glory, in the full expression of his mercy and grace and with your welfare in mind, is always with you because you are the place where he now lives. God’s presence is not just your hope; it’s your identity as a child of God.” Quote from the book Suffering by Paul David Tripp
